Blood doesn’t always make you family. It is the love, care and devotion you give to anyone in any capacity and on a daily basis that makes you family too. That can be from friends or step parents and step families.
I was blessed to have a step parent and step sister and I couldn’t imagine my life any other way. I saw the sacrifices my stepdad made to help give not only his daughter but also myself the life we both have. I saw and lived the love he brought in to our home and the family he gave me when I needed it most. Those are such valuable things to have in your life when you didn’t have the prototypical or proper family you were supposed to have. It is a huge responsibility and role to take on but it is such an honour as well.
Seeing as today is National Stepfamily Day I dedicate this post to all those that share in this incredible superhero role as a step parent and I commend you for stepping up and being that special person. I applaud all the kids that have embraced other children as their step siblings and that have welcomed them in to their hearts and homes despite the challenges that come with that. You are all remarkable human beings for sharing your love and for all that you do and you deserve to be appreciated for what is involved in that. Not just today, but always.
So to all the step families out there celebrating today, thank you and cheers to you.
