MOTHER’S

July 23rd 2011 – the day I became a mother, a day I will never forget but also a day that I truly felt love on a whole different level.  My heart felt complete after years of trying and even a loss.  My heart felt pure joy and I finally understood the true meaning of unconditional love as I marveled at this tiny human being that I carried for 9 whole months and that was now in my arms. I also felt fear because “what’s next and how do you do this?” “I am now responsible for this whole other life”.  All of these emotions were incredible and so special and to this very day I still feel them.

Agatha Christie said it best when she said “A mother’s love for her child is like nothing else in the world.  It knows no law, no pity.  It dares all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stands in its path.”  How incredibly powerful and accurate are those words?  I have said it a million times, but my child has truly been the fuel that gets me going and that pushes me forward in life and yet she has no idea of that superpower she has.

I am fortunate enough to have the most incredible role model and mother.  She showed me what strength, determination, hard work and most importantly love is all about.  She showed me that no matter what life throws at you, you pick yourself up, dust yourself off and you keep going.  She showed me that in life sometimes things might not be how you want it to be, but you can sure as hell make it great.  She has been there with me through the scary moments, the happy times and has always been my sounding board when I need to talk things through.  She has never judged me or belittled any of my ideas or plans no matter how silly or unattainable they may have been.  She is the worlds greatest nonni who makes every moment spent with Mila special whether it be by teaching her how to make fresh homemade pasta, taking her to Indigo to pick out new books or even just sitting with her watching nonna Maria cooking videos which is their special show.  I always said if I could be half the woman my mother is in my lifetime than I would be content.

While I appreciate that there is a specific day to honour our mother’s I feel like we could always do more.  One day doesn’t seem like it is sufficient enough to ensure these selfless beings are appreciated and thanked.  We need to do more, spend more time with them, call them, tell them you love them as often as you possibly can.  Make sure they know just how important they are.

To all the women reading this blog today that are mom’s – from furbaby parents, mommy’s-to-be, all the way to stepparents or parental figures I wish you all a blessed and beautiful day filled with all the praise and love you deserve.  May you be reminded today of just how important you are to those fortunate enough to have you in their lives.

To those that may be struggling today whether because you are still on your journey and trying for a child, if you are a mother to a heavenly angel baby or if you have lost your own mother, I send you peace, strength and love on this day as I know it can’t be an easy one.

And finally to my mother – I love you and thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you have done. From every struggle you pushed through to give me a beautiful life, for always making me feel like I am your everything and for being everything to not only me but our entire family I wish you a very Happy Mother’s Day.
