I always try to find beauty in the simple day-to-day things. Sure, some days can be much harder than others, but I definitely aim to reflect and appreciate as much as possible throughout my day which can also help with resetting your mindset when things might be a little harder.
Whether it be the beautiful sunshine that comes through my window on a sunny morning, an incredible pink sunset, the smell of a home cooked meal that fills the house while preparing it or the sound of kids laughing and playing in the park these things always warm my heart and put a smile on my face. It can be receiving a text message from a friend or family member wishing you a great day or reminding you of how much they love you and miss you or it could be just a simple smile from a stranger while crossing their path walking down the street. It is really easy to forget how beautiful life can be even with the simplest of things when we spend our days and nights running around and working super hard trying to accomplish a million things or even more so while trying to earn as much as possible to spend on “things” that are supposed to bring us joy.
I find that I’ve become even more appreciative the older I get. You realize that in this life and our world it can be so cruel and grueling and extremely taxing. As a child you are so naïve and sheltered from all the bad in the world and rightfully so, but as an adult there are daily reminders of how hard life can be and it can be all consuming. It is all over the news, radio, social media and in our daily conversations. It is in those phone calls you receive hearing about something or someone that is sick, suffering or struggling in some way. It is the reality you see while driving along a different neighbourhood and seeing the streets lined with people who have no home, food or even a decent piece of clothing to keep them warm on a cold night. All these realities should be a reminder to all of us of how fortunate we are and that starts from even the simplest of blessings around us every single day.
Did you get to hug a loved one today? That’s a blessing.
Did you get to sip on a warm cup of coffee this morning? That’s a blessing.
Did you get to clean your home and do what felt like a million loads of laundry? Yup, even THAT is a blessing as there are people out there that would give ANYTHING to have that.
Life is beautiful – la vita e bella – despite it being super tough and exhausting too, but we should all take time to truly look at everything with appreciation. You should also try to bring a little beauty to another person’s life each day too. Whether it be by praising them for a job well done, telling someone how much you appreciate them, surprising someone with a cup of coffee or helping someone out when they are struggling or feeling overwhelmed. Never underestimate the power behind doing something simple for others and keep in mind that receiving appreciation is equally important and impactful.
Today I am appreciative of having an extra-long weekend giving me a few days to get things accomplished around the house as well as some R&R (fingers crossed) and maybe a little fun too. My hope for each of you today is that you stop to smell the roses, sit with your thoughts and feelings for just a moment and truly take in all the blessings you have all around you in your life. Be sure to show gratitude and be thankful for what you DO have instead of looking at what you may be lacking. Lastly, send out positive energy, thoughts and maybe a prayer or two for all of those that need it most in this world.
Wishing you all a beautiful day and a happy long weekend. xo
