PINK

For as long as I can remember the colour pink has always been my favourite colour. From my first bike which was ironically called the Pink Lady, through my pre-teen years and despite other kids saying it was babyish, all the way to being the main theme colour on my wedding day. I have always found a way to incorporate the colour into my life – you don’t get the nickname Pinklady for no reason.

After my late husband’s passing, I felt the need to update my bedroom to a space I could call my own. In typical LM fashion the theme colour’s were rose gold, white, grey and of course, pink! I find so much peace and tranquility when I’m in my room and I love how the sunsets can be viewed from my window, especially the pink ones that I’ve always felt were a special message just for me.

After a recent therapy session focusing on what brings me peace and joy, the discussion of my room came up and we chat further into how the colour pink very clearly influences certain feelings and moods for me. We explored that even further and she pointed out how ironic it is that we are currently living in a world where pink has exploded and it’s as if the universe is sharing all this pink around me to help me along my journey. A strange and total coincidence, but I couldn’t be happier about it.

Another discussion I had with a really good friend brought up how in Ayurveda it is believed that colour impacts your dosha and how certain colors should even be avoided. It’s different for everyone, but it made me think more about pink, and so, I looked it up. Pink is the Ayurveda colour which symbolizes success and can bring about stability. After more searching, I also found that in western cultures pink is seen as calming, feminine, non-threatening and when incorporated in the home, pink can actually calm emotional energies. It can also soothe aggression or anger and in some studies, it had shown that exposure to a lot of pink can have a calming effect on the nerves. It’s no wonder I feel as much peace as I do when in my room. I’m also thrilled that I just finished updating Mila’s bedroom and she also chose a soft pink theme. We often joke that we would like to turn our home into our very own Barbie Dream House and to be quite honest, I’m not completely against it. No, I won’t have all pink walls and all pink furniture throughout the entire house, but I could be creative and find ways to have hints or accessories to have it sprinkled throughout our home. There is nothing wrong with that, right?

The point I’m trying to make is that many people don’t even realize the importance of colour, but that colour, whether around us or even on us in what we wear can bring about certain feelings, emotions or can also be a trigger so it is very important to be aware of those feelings.

Pink is very clearly my colour, but what is yours? Do you have a specific colour that makes you instantly smile or that gives you the warm and fuzzy feels? Do you have a colour that you know you need to avoid because it doesn’t feel as good when you are around it? I would love to hear from anyone else willing to share, so please feel free to comment.

Lastly, I’m wishing everyone a wonderful long weekend, and may you be doing all the things that bring you peace, harmony, love and joy and may it be sprinkled with a little colour too.

  1. For me my favourite colour are different shades of purple. They make me smile, feel happy and remind me of my Mother, she loved growing and taking care of African Violets. ❤️
