RESOLUTIONS

People always make resolutions when a new year is starting. Every New Year’s Eve we say we are going to make that next year better than the last and most people fail at most of the things they say they will do. I’m not a fan of the New Year’s promises but more recently I had a thought about “new year, new me” and looked at it from a different perspective.

What if instead of New Year’s Eve promises we try something a little different? What if instead of starting the clock on January 1st and it ending on December 31st with the rest of the world and becoming another unsuccessful statistic, what if instead we start our “year” on our birthday? What if we look at it as us growing positively for another year and working towards things like being healthy, happy, learning, or more importantly, being blessed with life for another year? Doesn’t it take some of the pressure off in some way? Doesn’t it make you look at things in a more grateful and appreciative way while still setting some goals for your next year of living and growing? We have turned the page and have become another year older, wiser and we are looking forward to more learning and experiences. All of them stepping stones to a whole world of possibilities. Doesn’t that seem so much more refreshing and less stressful? To me it does, so I figured I would share with others in case anyone else wants to give it a try too.

So, as I creep up to my 44th year I am taking this new approach. I’m reviewing my 43rd year and all I’ve accomplished. It was one with many physical, emotional and mental challenges, but the strides and progress I’ve made has been beautiful and bountiful. I am looking ahead with bigger and brighter eyes of the things I am working towards and that will be accomplished through this 44th year and I can’t wait to share it with all of you following along on this journey with me and as it all starts to unfold. I am truly feeling excited, inspired, empowered and blessed for 44.
